To those that follow La Liga and Euro futbol in general: How good is Beckham at this point in his career?

New uni's look cool...it's the marketing of a sports celebrity that most Americans are totally unfamiliar with.

he will be very good in the MLS, probably one of the 3 or 4 best players. However, while he played pretty well at times for Real Madrid during the second half of the season, he isn't one of the best 50 players in the world at this point of his career. This would be like Jordan going to Spain to play AFTER he retired from the Wizards.

If he takes this seriously (as opposed to a retirement league or entry into Hollywood), it will be great for the MLS and american soccer.

Beckham is still in very good condition. You can at least be assured that you'll be getting a very hardworking/professional player. His crossing and set pieces are still some of the best in the game. Also, his general passing is decent. He's not world class, and hasn't got the most amazing technique. But, he should definitely do well at LA Galaxy.

I agree that he will be a huge asset to the Galaxy and the MLS.

I don't blame him one bit for taking the money.

It will be a great investment by the Galaxy and the MLS if Beckham's arrival can garner more US interest in soccer. But other stars need to be lured from abroad. Beckham clearly has the charisma to bring in casual viewers of the game.

I know that most futbol aficionados consider the MLS a second-tier league but is it really that disrespected. I mean, is it comparable w/ the Scandinavian and Irish premiere divisions ...Serie B?
